Kitchen do it yourself

The manufacture of kitchen units is a complex and time-consuming process. Few people dare to do such a difficult job without experience and relevant skills. The idea of creating such furniture with their own hands, at first glance, it seems completely impracticable. In fact, given the presence of certain knowledge and possession of the skills of handling the instrument, this bold idea is quite realistic to bring to life.

The advantages of self-assembly kitchen

It would seem - why such difficulties? It is much easier to buy a ready-made furniture set or order its production from professionals. But for many, self-made kitchen is not just a desire to save money. This is an opportunity for self-expression and realization of your own project vision. Creating a headset with your own hands allows you to get a non-standard design, which:

  • fits perfectly into the layout of your apartment;
  • will meet all the requirements of future owners;
  • filled with original in form and functional components;

will give pleasure and joy from the process of its development, creation and operation.
Should I build a kitchen set with my own hands, everyone decides for himself. But if the future owner already has experience in the production of furniture, you should apply it. The one who decided on this complex matter will not have to:

  • pay for the services of specialists;
  • worry about the quality of work.

Creating a new headset is often not a spontaneous matter. Usually it is preceded by a long stage of project development, which takes into account the mass of various nuances. The number of modules, their purpose and location is determined. Selected materials, accessories, internal content. The kitchen should be not only beautiful, but also comfortable, ergonomic, functional. It is necessary to think about the location of the "working triangle", the filling of blind areas, the ways of opening the doors and many more different moments.

The choice of material for the headset

The design of the kitchen unit includes enclosures, facades and countertops. Different materials can be selected for each of these components.

Materials for supporting structures

The cabinet is the basis of kitchen furniture. To date, the following materials are used to make frames: natural wood, MDF - thin fiber boards and chipboard - chipboard.

  1. Array - the most expensive material for the manufacture of shells. It is environmentally friendly and durable, subject to the use of quality wood. Otherwise there is a risk that the tree will lead.
  2. MDF - durable, moisture-proof material. It is made of wood and resin, therefore it is safe for households.
  3. DSP - most often used because of the democratic cost. Lamination protects it from moisture. But if the edge is not processed with a film - sooner or later the material will begin to swell and collapse. In addition, through the open edge of the room get harmful resinous discharge.

Table top selection

The most common countertops made of laminated chipboard. They are practical, differ in the low cost, are not afraid of blows and contact with hot ware. Spilled oil, boiling water, chemicals will also not damage this surface. The weak point of chipboard is the lack of moisture resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a material with enhanced protection labeled B. The structure of such plates includes paraffin, which prevents the penetration of moisture. The laminate layer perfectly protects the surface, but poorly processed edges are very vulnerable. Therefore, their quality should be given increased attention. It is better to use PVC tape, as it reliably protects the edges from chipping.

A natural wood table top looks very attractive and expensive. But it is quite capricious - it does not tolerate high temperatures, moisture and requires additional care. Every six months it is necessary to handle oil. The wooden countertop must be protected from water. Otherwise, the appearance of cracks will not take long. It can be varnished or painted. Lacquer coating will help protect the array from disintegration. But over time, he will crack and exfoliate.

A practical replacement of the array can be a tabletop made of glued wood. For its manufacture use the same, perfectly polished slats of specially selected and treated wood. Such a surface does not swell or deform, no cracks form on it.

A natural stone countertop is expensive. It will serve for many years, because it is not afraid of high temperatures, the effects of acids, liquids, fungus and microbes, resistant to abrasion, scratches and chips. The stone has antistatic properties - does not attract dust.

An alternative may be artificial stone. This is a composite material, in which the crumbs of natural stones or minerals, resin and pigment additives. It is possible to form a cast seamless work surface from it, of any shape, with sides, baseboards and even an apron, which eliminates the need to lay tile on the wall. Modern industry offers the following types of material:

  • acrylic - provides great opportunities for design, but not sufficiently resistant to various kinds of impacts. It scratches very quickly, traces of hot dishes remain;
  • quartz agglomerate - much stronger, since 96% consists of quartz chips. Absolutely not subject to abrasion and scratches. It tolerates short-term contact with hot objects.

Facade material

Choosing material for facades, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the aesthetic qualities and cost. More important is the performance of the future "face" headset. The higher the resistance of the material to the aggressive effects of moisture, temperature, mechanical effects, household chemicals, the longer the headset will be able to retain its original appearance.

The most common options for kitchen fronts:

  • facades from LDSP or MDF - the plates covered with a melamine film. Differ in low price and low scratch resistance;
  • facades made of MDF with enamel coating - pre-primed surfaces are covered with several layers of paint, after which a finishing varnish is applied;
  • PVC coated plates - a cost-effective technology in which color and any drawings are applied to the film, and it is glued onto the prepared products;
  • facades, finished with plastic - allow you to create doors of complex shapes. Not afraid of direct sunlight, moisture. Fingerprints are very noticeable on glossy surfaces, and dirt is hard to remove from matte;
  • frame - in the frame of MDF insert elements from another material - glass, plastic, rattan mats, which give the kitchen originality and originality. Of the minuses can be noted the complexity of everyday care. Frames are also made of aluminum or wood;
  • veneered - the plates are lined with valuable wood veneer and resemble a real array, while remaining very attractive in price;
  • from a natural tree - eco-friendly and durable facades, which always remain relevant.
    Door cabinets can be made of wooden shields - teak or glued together from oak, larch, birch, aspen, pine, beech, spruce or cedar. The facades of OSB look original.

Fittings

Auxiliary elements help to improve the quality of furniture, extend its service life, make it more comfortable.

Accessories for your comfort

  • Furniture handles - made from a variety of materials, designed to withstand repeated pressing and exposure to the environment. There are pressure transforming handles.
  • Dampers - serve to soften blows and claps. Mounted on the hinges of the doors, guides for drawers. Thanks to them, the movement stops for a second and then continues until the drawer is completely closed.
  • Hinges - modern designs make it possible to significantly increase the opening angle of the door. In the case of use of withdrawable systems, it is necessary to open the door at 175 degrees. The hinges differ in purpose - for particleboard, MDF, wood, metal and the number of hinges. There are 4 and 7 hinge devices. The latter allow you to move the door to the side after its full opening.

  • Guides - are fixed on the inner side surfaces of the cabinets and act as a kind of rails for rolling out drawers and other structures. There are roller and ball designs. Balls withstand loads up to 80 kg, therefore they are irreplaceable on deep and wide drawers.
  • Lifting mechanisms - are used for opening and fixing the upper doors. There are mechanical and pneumatic lifts. The latter allow you to determine the desired angle of the door and lock it in the ajar position.
  • Metalboxes - the boxes consisting of two guides, a front and back wall. May have completely different dimensions.
  • Systems "Carousel", "Magic Corner" - allow you to use hard-to-reach spaces in corner systems.
  • Metal baskets - elements of internal filling. Convenient designs that allow you to easily view the contents of the box.
  • Separators - are installed inside the box. Serve for the organization of kitchen utensils, spices, cutlery.

Stages of project creation

The process begins with the construction of a general floor plan, taking into account all sizes. Then, on its basis, a drawing is constructed taking into account household appliances.

Determine the design

The first thing you need to decide when starting to create a kitchen design is the location and size of the refrigerator, sink, and stove. You need to start with them for the reason that they are dependent. The location of the sink depends on the location of the water pipe, the gas stove on the pipe and the air vent, the refrigerator from heating appliances cannot be placed next to the battery. From the placement of these elements will depend on the location of the hood, drying dishes, a box for spoons and forks. There are many programs with which you can quickly outline the design of the headset. If necessary, you can ask for help from a company that manufactures furniture to order.
Then choose the type of layout of the future kitchen. For smaller rooms, linear placement along one or two walls, or angular, will do. In the spacious kitchens of private houses or studios possible peninsular layout, and even an island.

We make measurements

One of the most important events during the creation of the kitchen - the removal of measurements. Accuracy in this matter is simply necessary - it will affect the speed and complexity of further work.
First of all, the perimeter of the room is measured - on baseboards, at the level of the upper boundary of the floor modules - 85-90 cm and at the level of the average person's height. The height of the room is also measured in several places to identify errors. Next, the starting point is selected - the angle from which the distances to windows, doors, gas pipes, water outlets, heating devices, sockets, ventilation openings are determined. These parameters are necessary for the correct placement of kitchen modules. In the measurement scheme, you need to specify the dimensions of the windows, doorways, along with the platbands, dimensions, design, height of the sill and the width of its protrusion.

When designing a kitchen, you must take into account the placement of household appliances, therefore, you need to know its dimensions in advance.

Do not forget about household appliances

Before you go to the store for appliances, you need to decide on the style and color of the future kitchen. Spontaneously purchased units can subsequently absolutely not be combined with furniture. Agree - chrome surfaces look strange in the style of Provence or Country.
The dimensions of future cabinets depend on the dimensions of household appliances. Therefore, it is better to first purchase "kitchen assistants", and only then be determined with the size of the drawers. If, after installing the kitchen, it turns out that the oven or dishwasher does not fit in the cupboard, nothing can be done about it. But the dimensions of the kitchen, at the design stage, you can always adjust to the size of the equipment.

Save work surface area by opting for a mini two-burner stove.

Washing and dishwasher should be located in the immediate vicinity of the outlet and drain water. When transferring these devices will have to use a special pump. Built-in oven can be placed in the cabinet under the hob or move it to a separate case.

A slab located in the corner will double your worries. After all, you will need to wash off the fat from two walls at once, and you have to reach for them through the stove, and the most difficult thing is to clean the corner. You should not place the stove near the sink - water droplets can fall into the hot oil, which will splash onto the hands of the hostess. Do not place it and next to the window - the wind can blow out the fire or accidentally set fire to the fluttering curtain.
The microwave oven should not be built in too high - there is a risk of getting burned with heated food from the plate. It is also inconvenient when it is located too low - you have to bend over.
The refrigerator should not be installed near the stove, oven, radiator and just in a well-lit place. It will work with enhanced power, which will shorten the life of the device.

Features of the design and the size of the kitchen

There are certain rules for the placement of kitchen elements:

  • the sink should be placed close to communications;
  • It is necessary to plan a sufficient number of available sockets for connecting small household appliances. Do not install them over a gas stove or sink;
  • the hood must be in close proximity to the ventilation hatch, so that you do not have to disguise the unsightly corrugation;
  • the distance from the hood to the slab is 75 cm. With a greater distance, the device will no longer cope with its duties;
  • it is better to place the sink in line with the work surface and stove. Cooking with this arrangement is much more convenient.

There are classic sizes of kitchen modules. They are designed for a person of average height. The dimensions of manufactured household appliances depend on these parameters.
The standard height of the working surface is 85 cm. In such a position, a person does not have to raise his elbows too high or, on the contrary, bend down. The depth of the tabletop is 60 cm. On such a surface and the technique will fit and at the same time you will not have to reach far to clean the tile. The depth of the upper tier - 30 cm. It is enough to place the dishes and not to be injured, leaning over the table top. Cabinet height from 70 to 90 cm. Too high shelves remain unused. You can reach them only with the help of a ladder or stool. Width of doors varies from 30 to 45 cm. This width is quite enough for convenient use of cabinets.

With self-made kitchens, the average parameters can be changed by adjusting the height of the tabletop and the upper tier to fit your height.

Features of the corner kitchen components

This layout is optimal for small rooms. The modules are located in the letter G. There are two versions of the corner node:

  • trapezoid module;
  • connection of two cabinets at right angles.

The first option takes a lot of space. Therefore, most customers prefer a more accurate angle. But in order to use the dark hard-to-reach area, it is necessary to provide for various withdrawable and withdrawable devices, as well as a special double door.

Sketch and accurate drawing

Given the above nuances, you can begin to create the final accurate drawing and sketch.
First of all, draw a top view. Then, a sketch is created of the wall, which will have a headset. Indicate the location of communications, electrical outlets, gas boiler, meter and pipes, ventilation. Then create a sketch of the remaining three walls, taking into account the doors, windows, sockets. It is better to print the image in several copies - you can experiment and try different options for the placement of kitchen components.
Special attention should be paid to the design of electrical wiring. In addition to the main switch, you will need to install devices to control the backlight, as well as hidden sockets for each of the stationary appliances and additional - to connect small technical devices.

The next stage is the arrangement of furniture in compliance with real sizes. You can stop at the standard dimensions, but if necessary, change the parameters according to your own needs. Start with a drawing, which shows a top view. After that, proceed to the design of the sketch of the wall with a headset. At first the table-top is drawn. Then the lower cabinets of the furniture are depicted together with the built-in appliances and the sink with exact parameters, performing the drawing in the chosen scale. After that, wall cabinets are drawn in a contrasting color.

At the next stage, it is necessary to draw up a map of cutting the material, to make detailing, and finally, to cut chipboard.

The nesting map is a document with a drawing of the correct layout of future parts of the headset. It allows you to determine the required amount of material, minimize its consumption by reducing scrap, speed up the cutting process. The map shows the best way to lay out parts, so in the process of work you will not need to spend time thinking.

To create a map, you can use special programs, for example, Cutting. Another option is to order its preparation in the same company where the materials were purchased.

When drafting the document, it is necessary to consider the following nuances:

  • the width of the mounted modules must be a multiple of 50 mm and start at 200 mm - 250, 300, etc .;
  • texture direction, if present on the surface of the material;
  • the size of the back wall should be less than the dimensions of the module by 4 mm;
  • 16 mm thick chipboard is required for the production of hanging boxes, and 18 mm for floor cabinets.

When the map is ready, you can proceed to cutting the details.

If you yourself do not plan to produce a cut, it is better to order it in the same store where you bought chipboard. So do not have to spend twice on the transportation of material.

Necessary tools for assembly

Before assembling, make sure that you have all the necessary tools. It is better to take care of this in advance than to interrupt the process due to the lack of indispensable adaptations.
Tools to cook:

  • drawing or joiner's square;
  • level - normal or laser;
  • roulette;
  • a circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • drill with perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • drills - by 4.5 mm, 7, 8 mm;
  • awl;
  • stationery knife;
  • pliers;
  • hexagon;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • confirmets;
  • conductor - greatly facilitate the assembly, protect the furniture from accidental damage.

Installation and assembly of the headset

The assembly is done in stages.

  1. Fix guides for drawers.
  2. Drill holes for mounting shelves.
  3. Holes are made to connect individual modules.
  4. The side walls are attached to the bottom of the box.
  5. Attach the top board.
  6. Install the legs.

Installation begins with the connection of the lower cabinets. Fixation is carried out with eurostrips. After that, they attach a single back wall. Next on the tabletop mark the areas for washing and hob, and cut out the holes in accordance with their size. The cuts are treated with sealant. After that, the table top is attached to the pedestals with screws. Next, determine the height of the placement of the canvas for fixing the upper cabinets. To do this, to the distance between the table top and suspended structures add their height plus 10 mm. After mounting the upper tier, the doors are installed in the open state. The hinges are first attached to the doors, and then to the walls of the enclosures. Next comes the turn of the built-in equipment, accessories, metal baskets and draw-out systems.

Creating a kitchen with your own hands is an interesting and fascinating process, and its result will delight you for many years.
